History

Even though Acapulco is nowadays recognized for being one of the biggest entertaining centers in the world, the port played an important role in the world history. So important that Acapulco is considered an angular stone in the international trade, since the 16th century.

For 250 years, the Spanish colonial empire trafficked with the richness of Asia in big ships that boarded the Pacific Ocean.

That is how the Fort of San Diego was built in 1616, to take care of the ships from the pirates who were nearby ready to attack the treasures that the Spanish traded with.

Years after, Acapulco became famous as the meeting point of Hollywood stars and the rich & famous people from the entire globe.
